“I want to make a complaint.”
The Trading Standards man looked up, his face the picture of disinterest.
The woman slapped a dead bird down on the desk. A couple of iridescent blue feathers flew into the air and one settled in his coffee mug.
“Norwegian Blue?”
“You’ve been watching too much old comedy, mate. It’s not a fucking parrot.”
“But it is dead.”
“No, he’s just resting.”
“I think that was my line,” the man said helpfully. “Beautiful plumage,” he added.
“The plumage don’t enter into it! It’s a fucking dinosaur!”
“Look on the bright side, it’s stone dead.”
