The slender gold band lay in the heart of the fire, the flames licking at the metal in a lover’s caress.

The fire writing shone bold yet cursive.

Mairon reached into the furnace, a shiver of pleasure dancing up his spine.

The ring slipped easily onto his finger and settled there.

Power flared and flowed between them, completing the circle and sealing their bond.

The lesser rings revealed themselves to him instantly, but the elves hid theirs from his sight.

Mairon smiled.

Soon the One Ring would claim them all and they would be forced to their knees before him.
