“I need those power lines switched off now, Mr Curtis.” Jess was still using her reasonable voice. If the duty controller didn’t stop wittering, that would change.
“You need to tell me why, Miss Parker.”
“That’s a matter of national security.” That always sounded better than Because there’s a fucking great big sauropod about to electrocute itself in spectacular fashion.
“But…”
“That trumps the need for the inhabitants of Little Snoring by the Sea to make their morning cuppa, Mr Curtis. I’ll have a copy of the Official Secrets Act emailed over for your signature.”
He caved. They always did.
