Nearly Ready

Well, the next instalment of the Stephen/Ryan saga is nearly ready for posting. I just need to check through in the cold light of day tomorrow, then face the usual formatting and uploading struggle with my implacable enemy, Windows Clipboard. 

But I'm off now to start watching the second season of Rome! Hopefully, the grubby, violent, pshyco ex-legionary who's name I can't remember will still be in it. I liked him!

And Rome ... oh NOES! That nice Mr Vorenus has turned all bitter, whilst your grubby friend Pullo is now a cuddly teddy-bear. Fortunately Mark Anthony's still much the same.

Yes, it has to be said, Mark A hasn't changed much. And I have a strong suspicion that Pullo will turn pyscho again pretty soon, but someone has to stay sane while poor Vorenus grieves. A bit hasty, maybe, where the children were concerned, but I'm sure he'll get over it. And when I did Roman law at university, noone ever used the *f* word so often, not even when their slave was accidentally struck by a javelin crossing the forum and we had to work out who was liable for damages. How times change! All good grubby fun.

Why is it, when thinking fond thoughts of Pullo, I remember with amusement the splendid scene when he rammed the annoying slave's head on the post and then went off with the girl? Am I a bad person?? Do I subliminally want to ram annoying people's heads into posts? Or is it just the delightfully disproportionate nature of the response that appeals? Either way, Pullo is still cute!!! I'm sure he'll console Vorenus and help him get over the whole unfortunate wife/kids episode, while disposing of his own drippy "wife" soon. Either that or someone else will dispose of her. Personally, my betting is she buys it messily by end of episode 3!

I think you secretly want to be Pullo, I think that's what it is. A secret yearning desire to be a cheerful brutish Roman soldier who occasionally gets oiled by his commanding officer...or maybe that's me? I could say something filthy here concerning Pullo and Vorenus but I shall restrain myself!

No, I don't think she'll last out the series, she's quite floaty and fragile looking I think she might fall under a wagon, or be eaten by a bear, or possibly get carried off by Barbarians disguised as bears?

Rome amuses me in ways that make me just a little silly.

And remember the best stage direction of all from Shakespeare, "Exit, pursued by a bear". That was one of the Roman plays, I'm sure of it. She should be eaten by a bear. It is a fitting end for a floaty, fragile and undoubtedly silly person.

Need to re-check history books for references to barbarians disguised as bears oiling, or eating Romans.

You're right, it is splendidly silly, and I do have frequent urges to slam people's heads through walls/pillers/doors. I am a BAD PERSON. I like Pullu!

It's true there were lots of bears when there were Romans, so it only makes sense for barbarians to disguise themselves as bears and steal people including Pullo's floaty slave lady...I think her name is Eirene...I think anyway.

If you come across an entry concerning the oiling of Romans by people dressed as bears...please, please do share because that's a mental image that's going to have me sniggering through the next episode and mumbling 'bears' to myself every five minutes.

I was out last night so have taped Rome and will be watching it at the earliest opportunity. Eeep, I liked Vorenus and Pullo, hope they haven't done too much bad stuff to the poor bloke.

Glad to hear there's more Stephen/Ryan coming. Ive been looking forward to the next part of that one.

And I'm tempted to blame you for my next fic; all that good Ryan stuff you've been doing. I'm now planning a five chapter action adventure with Ryan and Connor (not slash, because those two, well, just no. But lots of dinosaurs and manly heroics planned).

Worry not about Vorenus and Pullo, they'll be fine! Won't say more until you've seen it!

I know what you mean about Ryan/Connor, but there is one really superb Ryan/Connor which I think is by Entangled_Now, which I read ages ago, and have just spent 5 minutes failing to find. I'll carry on looking and let you know the details. It's well worth reading, and I really enjoyed it. But manly heroics is fun too. And am more than happy to take the blame for getting more people to write Ryan! He deserves it.

I've finally found the Ryan/Connor fic I was trying to recommend. Its called Adreneline, and it is by Entangled_Now. You'll find it on Primeval_itv, on 18th March this year. I haven't worked out how to cut a link to it, but if you scroll back on the site you'll find it. Read it :) Its worth it.

I have a suspicious feeling I may have read it quite a long time ago. Was it the one set during episode 6 after Connor had the run-in with the future predator?

That's the only one I can remember seeing at all with that pairing. May have to go looking, but I have about three phone calls to make tonight, and I was hoping to post my next fic before I go away for the weekend.

I too like Pullo (who a friend has unfortunately dubbed 'formerly interesting but now irritating soldier', while Vorenus is 'dull soldier). But he's great whether being cuddly or psycho - there's not many characters you can say that about!

And Mark Antony is still present and correct - yum! As I have been saying to my friends, there are only three reasons to watch Rome - sex, violence (in the nicest possible way, of course!), and Mark Antony getting his kit off at any given opportunity!

Looking forward to the next installment of the Stephen/Ryan saga - I am so loving your stories (as you may have already gathered!) *bounces up and down impatiently* And don't worry about Windows Clipboard - the trick is not to let it see that you are riled, because then it messes up even more. Posting can be such a trauma sometimes *nods in agreement*

I strongly suspect he'll go back to psycho-soldier soon! I just adored the scene in the arena in the last series when Voreunus finally had to get stuck in and help. It was so splendidly Monty Pythonesque "come back here and I'll bite your legs off".

And yes, Mark Antony getting his kit off is a major reason for watching. I found him such a dull character in A Level Ancient History but TV certainly has its visual compensations!! Am now viewing him in a whole new (kit-less) light!

I'll launch my usual battle with windows this evening! And will try to stay calm.

M.Antony is just as dull in degree level history - don't worry. You egt none of the stuff about his fling with Cleopatra (and every other female on the planet, apparently), and instead lots of boring stuff about his political battles with Octavian (which I suspect we'll be seeing some of in the show...). TV version is much more attractive!

I'm hoping Vorenus will stop being 'dull soldier' soon - he did have some interesting moments in the last series (loved that bit in the arena too!). And Pullo is just fab anyway. Although I'm a bit worried about his new wife-to-be - I couldn't help wondering why she agreed to marry him. I know they had a different social system back then and all, and that marrying Pullo would have given her protection and a potentially stable life (although this is Pullo we're talking about...), but for crying out loud, he murdered your previous lover. That seems like it would be a hard thing to forgive...!

Perhaps someone ought to liven it up at both A Level and Degree Level by insisting on threesome slash for each of the Triumverates, but I have to say that anything including Pompey could come close to causing me to squick!

And re Pullo's wife, see earlier thread with Entangled_Now. We have decided she must be eaten by bears, or barbarians disguised as bears or something. But eaten, anyway.

And the words "stable life" and "Pullo" don't go together. But he might go well with Mark Anthony.

We may need to find a home for Rome Slash !!!!!!!!

I'm really glad it isn't just me that keeps looking at Vorenus and Pullo and thinking, "how slashy is this friendship?"

I was starting to worry that slashfic was warping my ability to watch normal, sensible tv!

I think it's hugely fun that a brief random comment about Rome has produced such splendidly slashy, oily fun with bears, barbarians etc. Why aren't I surprised that the "Primeval Crowd" also watch Rome and like Vorenus/Pullo??

Could we suspend our disbelief for Triumverate Threesome Slash? Maybe, just maybe, I'll write some, but as I said earlier, not Pompey, no way!
