Summary : Written for [community profile] tolkien100 challenge Death Defying

Through the dark eyes of Morgoth, Húrin watched first madness then grief take hold of his son.

He saw the death of his beloved daughter but knew not whether he beheld the truth or yet more lies.

He waited for death to claim him, but it seemed that death was in no hurry.

He would not beg for mercy or for death for he knew his refusal rankled deep in Morgoth’s black heart.

That and that alone gave him succour; a small pleasure to leaven the bitterness of his end.

Yet of that, he knew no tale would ever tell.

Hurin's defiance is so heroic, but to think of his suffering is terrible.

Ouch, poor Hurin.

But very nicely done!

Lovely insight to one of the most tragic tales of Tolkien's legendarium. I can't imagine being in Hurin's position to witness all his family's suffering and to be powerless. :(
