The glowing ball of fracture time turned slowly in the air, lighting the myriad panes of jewelled glass, casting a kaleidoscope of colour onto the stark grey walls.
From the wooden beams hung a cross, a stark reminder of suffering and death.
Nick Cutter stared up at the dark wood of the ancient symbol and wondered if an anomaly might one day allow them to learn the truth.
But even if they did, the secret would still have to be kept. Along with all too many others.
He had learnt the painful lesson that some truths should never be told.
