“What does your lord promise?”

“Many precious jewels and gold and silver to complement their worth.”

Ulfang snapped his fingers impatiently.

“Land. My lord can promise you wide lands for your people, free from the tyranny of the elves.”

The Easterling nodded thoughtfully and so the haggling continued far into the night.

By the time a grey dawn arose, a price had been agreed and a bloody bargain struck.

The treachery of Ulfang and his sons left the battle plans of the sons of Fëanor in tatters.

But neither Ulfang or his brood lived long enough to claim their price.

They did not live to see it, but even if they had, they would not have received what they had been promised: neither wide lands nor freedom...
