“Do you think they’re still looking for us?” Connor asked quietly, as they sat in their rough shelter and stared out at the vastness of the night sky.
“Yes.” Abby allowed no shadow of doubt to enter her voice as she saw the moonlight silvering the tears on Connor’s upturned face. “They haven’t forgotten us, Conn. They’d never do that.”
She held her arms out to him and he shuffled over, taking the comfort she offered.
Connor had always been there for her when she needed him. Tonight, it was her turn to return the favour.
Together they would survive.
