“Please could you let Miss Judson know that Claudia Brown is here to see her?”
“You can’t just barge in here and demand to see the Headteacher,” the school secretary said, staring disdainfully down her nose at Claudia.
“And here was I thinking I’d just asked politely. Silly me.”
The woman sniffed disparagingly but picked up the phone anyway. “Claudia who?”
“Claudia Brown. Home Office. Tell her I’m here about the very large dinosaur digging up her lacrosse pitch.” As an afterthought, she added, “Not that I particularly care. I always hated lacrosse.”
She’d always hated that school, as well.
