“Hey, look!” Connor brandished something green he’d plucked from the grass.
“Four-leafed clover.” Abby laughed. “Maybe someone thinks we need some luck?”
“Don’t we always?” Becker muttered.
“Could have been a worse week.”
“You have low standards, Matthew.”
Matt flipped him off then bent down and picked another small leaf. “Four on this one, too.”
“Double the luck!” Connor sounded pleased.
“Don’t tempt fate, Conn.”
Light laughter rippled through the grass, sending a shiver down their spines then Jess’ cheerful voice came over the comms. “Anomaly closed. Stand down.”
Matt gave an almost imperceptible smile of thanks to the field.
