The presents started out in an orderly pile, carefully wrapped and festooned in ribbon, then an eleven year old whirlwind soon reduced everything to a chaotic heap of shredded paper, home to a horde of treasures, including new riding boots, jodhpurs, an encyclopaedia of horses, and the latest Let’s Ride computer game.

But as each label was pounced on, then ripped off, there was no disguising the sadness that crept into the vivid blue eyes.

“Room for one more?” asked a voice from the doorway.

Vicky hurled herself across the room shrieking, and Amanda and Greg shared a conspiratorial smile.

Indeed :-) Everything I'm working on at the moment is angsty; Cutter and Stephen and Helen are about to get into trouble (again) in the follow-up to TLC, I'm making a start of VS3, and my post-S2 story isn't exactly cheerful, either!

Awwww! Yep, I can imagine Vicky taking on a pile of presents like that..

But it also reminds me of that scene where Ryan told Greg all about the anomalies, all the while clutching the bear he'd sent Vicky.

I love imagining that this is the first time that Ryan has actually been allowed to be there for one of Vicky's birthdays or Christmas, and can imagine Vicky wondering and worrying - knowing things had changed between her parents - but not entirely trusting until she has concrete proof.
