Well, I can't say I'm sorry to see the back of 2022 for a wide variety of reasons.
I've not had a good year healthwise, as I went down with a very bad cough/chest infection at the end of January, and since then I've been dogged by a persistant cough and am now being treated for asthma as investigations continue.
The worst thing has been one of my oldest and closest friends being diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour. I now have Power of Attorney for him and have been doing my best to support him as much as possible, with the invaluable support of
goldarrow who has been the most amazing friend to him and me. He's just finihsed his penultimate round of chemo with the last one to come at the end of January. This has hopefully gained him some time, but the wait for the results of the bi-monthly scans is terrifying as we know it's only a matter of time before the tumour rears its ugly head again. But he's been amazing throughout the whole thing, and all the rest of us can do is our best to be there for him all the time.
On the positive side, we've had four lovely trips to France, in each case for four weeks or more, and a few equally nice trips away in the campervan, to Devon, Rivington and Settle. And we finally had the long-delayed Denial on Tour to la Palma to visit the Permian. This was everything a holiday should be: good company, fantastic scenery, great hotel, excellent food - and two flat tyres in the hire car on two different days. Volcanic scenery is hard on tyres!
Trigger and Gwen continue to bring total joy to our lives. They get on so well and clearly adore each other. We've always been so lucky with our dogs. Gwen Greyhound has followed in the big pawsteps of Beela, Bess (who I inherited from my dad), Bonnie and Lady. All of whom have been much loved. And Trigger continues to be a worthy successor to Scruffy, Jake and Crisp, all equally wonderful creatures.
Russia's vile war on Ukraine has meant some LJ friends leaving the platform for Dreamwidth. I decided to stay, and intend to continue here as long as I have friends left on this platform, as there doesn't seem to be any single platform that suits everyone, so it's all a compromise. LJ keeps extending the paid packages as it's not possible to pay money to Russia anyway, and my journal and Denial is still covered until well into next year. I just don't have the mental energy for more changes in my life at the moment.
Mr FB's mum has reached 94. She's frail and has little short term memory, but she's still at home, with the help of a wonderful carer who comes in four times a day.
I've mainly been active in three fandoms: Primeval on LJ, Alex Rider on Discord and Tolkien fandom, also on Discord. I've very much enjoyed all three. My word count for the year was 108,434, made up of Primeval = 30,805, Alex Rider = 68,512, Tolkien = 8,117 and the Old Guard = £1,000. Not my best year, but far from my worst, and I'll take all the gains I can get at the moment!
I kept up my goal of keeping a diary every day, and it proved very useful at times!
Thank you all for the fun and friendship over the past year! I value all of you very much.
For 2023, I just hope for a better year for health for all my family and friends. 2023, please play like a nice puppy!

Date: 2023-01-01 10:34 pm (UTC)I hope your health improves in 2023 and you can get rid of that persistent cough.
It's great that Trigger and Gwen have been able to bring so much joy to your life and that you were able to take four lovely trips to France.
All of your writing records are seriously impressive! I think you should be proud of all that you accomplished in 2022! :-D

Date: 2023-01-02 10:48 am (UTC)I've been keeping a diary since 1986, and it has proved very useful, and interesting when I look back on what I was doing/feeling 10, 20 or 30 years ago. I am sticking with LJ because my archives are supported by the scrapbook; I'm just hoping they don't go out of business because of not being able to take our payments ... I don't think I can blame them for the war, anyway. You are doing a great thing, supporting your friend so well. Love to you and the hounds!

Date: 2023-01-02 01:56 pm (UTC)I don't blame LJ, as historically, they've always been a big anti-government blogging platform, which I've always felt was worthwhile of support, but there's been a big knee-jerk reaction against anything Russian and they've been tarred with that brush.
I don't know how big their non-Russian market share is now. I suspect we're farly insignificant. I hope they continue.
