“She’s staying,” Abby declared.

Becker knew perfectly well he wasn’t going to win this debate.

“Anomaly’s weakening, boss!” one of his team called out helpfully.

“It’ll be gone in a few seconds,” Connor added.

Becker rolled his eyes. “I’m not a total idiot, Conn.”

“Can we phone a friend on that one?”

“We could ask the audience…” Abby muttered.

“Stop ganging up on me. It can stay, all right?”

The large, scruffy wolflike dog that had followed them back from the Palaeolithic wagged her tail and snuffled at Becker’s hand.

He scratched her behind the ears and she headbutted him.
