Nick Cutter turned over, uncomfortable in the confines of a small tent in the pouring rain.

Stephen Hart turned as well, equally restless, murmuring something in his sleep, repeating one word, over again and again: sorry.

Nick freed one arm from the tangle of his sleeping bag, sat up, and gently brushed his fingers across the other man’s cheek.

Long eyelashes fluttered open.

A lazy smile drew him down and Nick no longer fought it.

Warm lips welcomed him back.

They had taken the first steps on the road to forgiveness.

The past slipped away in a tangle of tongues.
