“Seriously?” Incredulity and amusement fought for dominance on Ryan’s usually impassive face.

Incredulity won.

“Yeah, seriously,” Lyle admitted ruefully. “I blame James.”

“The village fete? Christ on a crutch, Jon, what’s he got you doing?”

“Correction, mate. What’s he got us doing? Stringer’s mob are on rotation from Friday, so the rest of us are on community service. too.”

Ryan rolled his eyes. “Blade can do a knife-throwing act. Ditz can organise the medical tent. Finn can borrow a load of crappy air rifles and run a plastic duck shoot…”

“Kermit’s good with whack-a-mole. And I can run the bar!”
