Abby remembered when he’d followed her around like an irritating puppy desperate to hump her leg.

She remembered the mess he’d made in her flat: boxers on the bathroom floor, mugs everywhere, messy plates littering the bedroom.

She remembered her failed attempts to housetrain him.

She’d been more successful teaching him to fish in the Cretaceous with a spear he’d made by the light of their campfire.

She’d learned to rely on him to watch her back.

Trust turned to love.

But now she was forced to watch him as April Leonard’s faithful shadow.

She wanted the old Connor back.
