“Pip, I do declare you have upheld the honour of the Shire!”

Pippin looked smug at Merry’s words. “Had to be done. They are too serious underneath all the laughter.”

“Elves are a wonder, and no mistake,” Sam said dreamily.

Frodo looked suspiciously at his young friend. “What have you done, Master Took?”

Pippin speared a slice of bread on a long fork. “Toast?”

“Don’t change the subject.”

“I taught Lindir a song. He has said he will sing it tonight after the feast.”

Frodo groaned and resolved to dine alone that night.

He knew what Pippin’s songs were like.
