“I’ve cleared your diary for the rest of the day and tomorrow, Sir James,” Lorraine Wickes announced.

Lester made no attempt to argue, instead, he snapped his laptop shut with somewhat unnecessary force. “Thank you, Ms Wickes.” Standing, he rubbed his hands and wrists, looking like he wanted to scratch down to the bone.

“I hope you don’t mind me asking, but is it an allergy, sir?”

“Insect bites,” Lester said. “It’s a bad year for mosquitos.”

Lorraine nodded, making no mention of the fact that these particular insects always bit when there was a full moon in the sky.
