Lester hated blood sports.

There was nothing sporting about chasing a terrified animal then watching it torn apart.

He bore the hounds no ill will, but he thoroughly disliked the riders who kept up the pretence of drag hunting to slake their blood lust.

With the fox safely to earth, a grey wolf let out a low growl, fur bristling and teeth bared.

Recognising an apex predator, the hounds yelped and scattered as the riders milled around.

Nick smiled at the horsemen. “Have you lost something, gentlemen?”

At Nick’s side, the wolf growled again.

The hunters cursed and wheeled away.
