“Connor, I could kiss you!”

Cutter’s words played in a continuous loop in his head.

He’d made a joke of it at the time, but in the middle of a long night, with only his right hand for company, he allowed himself to imagine what it might be like.

Cutter would take the lead. He’d be happy to follow. There would be roughness against his cheek from Cutter’s perpetual stubble. Maybe a taste of scotch in the other man’s mouth.

It would never go beyond a fantasy in the darkness. Life was like that. But it wouldn’t stop him dreaming.
