“I can tarry no longer,” Elrond said softly. “You have long known where my heart lies.”

“For now, we cannot leave,” Elladan replied, tears shining in his grey eyes.

Elrohir stood at his brother’s shoulder. “While our sister yet lives and evil remains in the world, our place is here.”

Elrond clasped his sons close. “I will petition the Valar to extend your choice. I…”

“No oaths, father,” Elladan chided. “Not in our family. But petition for them, too.”

The time for words had passed. Elrond had to follow his own heart at last and trust to hope once more.

what a moment to write about- we do not hear about Elrond's parting with the twins much. Good gapfiller.
