Twelve people shuffled into the room wearing weary expressions and rumpled clothing as they took their places for what they clearly hoped would be for the last time after two weeks of hearing argument and counter-argument as barristers who earned more than most of them combined honed their acting skills.

“Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, have you reached a verdict on which you are all agreed?”

One of the jurors stood up and nodded. “We have.”

From the back row, a young man wearing mismatched clothing and fingerless gloves muttered, “Yeah, it was definitely a microraptor, not a chicken.”
