Six men in black army fatigues bristling with heavy weaponry weren’t exactly an everyday occurrence at the Helwith Bridge Inn, despite the caving club cottage next door.
“Fancy dress party tonight, lads?” Dave Hewitt called, toasting them with his pint glass.
A scary-looking fucker with more knives than his Aunty Vi’s kitchen came over and asked, in an accent straight off the northern moors, “Seen any dinosaurs, mate?”
Dave grinned. “Not yet, but try the weird sparkly thing in the camping field.”
“Cheers.”
“Shouldn’t you at least pretend this ain’t about weird shit?”
“Any point?”
“Nope, not around ‘ere, mate.”
