“Moving out in five,” Ryan ordered.

Straps on tactical vests were promptly tightened. Nothing loose, nothing that could snag.

Weapons checked. Slides pulled back and released. Magazines dropped.

They all had the ingrained muscle memory of exactly what a full mag should feel like. Re-seat it firmly. No showy slams, that’s only for rookies and bad thrillers. None of the squad were rookies but dinosaurs probably propelled them directly into bad thriller territory.

Knives loosened in their sheaths, just to check, even though they were already sure.
