primeval_denial challenge:drabble, prompt Jenny + shooting
There were times when Jenny wondered if she’d ever forget his face.
There were times when she hoped she never would.
She’d not wanted to know his name. Nor had she wanted to know if he’d left behind a woman to mourn him, or children who still cried for their father.
She’d acted on instinct, bringing up the rifle and firing. She’d done it to save herself.
And the others.
She reminded herself of that when the memories became too much.
There were even times when she felt it excused what she’d done.
But now wasn’t one of those times.

Date: 2008-12-19 07:52 am (UTC)This was terrific. Really captures her strength but human vulnerability in equal measure, very Jenny.
Wow! Think she'd want a hug? *g*
