This was not something I’d ever envisaged doing when I joined Her Majesty’s Civil Service.

So why was I standing in a muddy field trying to help Stephen Hart catch something that looked suspiciously like a hedgehog crossed with a pig?

A particularly irate beast, in fact. So ugly even its mother would have trouble loving it.

“Use your jacket, idiot!”

“Do you know how much my jacket cost, Mr Hart?”

The look thrown in my direction made it plain I could have chosen my words more advisedly.

Oh well, I’d just have to make it up to him later.
