Normally, Lester managed reasonably well to feign enthusiasm in meetings with the Home Secretary, but today was most assuredly not a good day.
In fact, he was beginning to forget what good days were like.
A commotion from the outer office suddenly provided a welcome distraction.
“The Home Secretary cannot be disturbed!” squawked a voice emulating an irate chicken.
“I’m not here to see the Home Secretary.” The words were smoothly spoken, but cut through the protestations like a knife through silk.
Lester’s heart missed a beat, then the door was yanked open, and he threw decorum to the winds.
