Lester glanced at the sheaf of papers on his desk. “Congratulations, Captain Ryan, your men have attracted one less complaint than usual.”

Ryan looked pleased.

Lester sighed. “Unfortunately, the same cannot be said you, Professor Cutter.” He handed over a report sheet, marked in red, Must Try Harder.

Nick failed to stifle a grin.

Lester’s eyes raked the room in search of his next victim.

Connor shuffled uncomfortably in his seat, then blurted, “Look, I swear, the goat was nothing to do with me.”

“Don’t jump ahead, Mr Temple. I was intending to discuss the goat under Any Other Business.”
