He hurt.

He hurt everywhere it was possible to hurt, and then in a few extra places for good measure.

Connor opened his eyes, rolled over and was promptly sick.

A cool hand brushed his hair back from his eyes, while another one rubbed gentle circles on his back the way his mother had always done when he was ill.

“What part of keep out of the way of its tail didn’t you think applied to you, Conn?”

“Sorry,” Connor breathed, before throwing up again. “At least it didn’t bite me.”

For once, Ditzy was just thankful for small mercies.
