Help needed, folks!

Does anyone know the size limits for posting behind an ordinary LJ cut?  Number of words/characters etc??
Part 4 is getting a bit long, and I don't want to split it up before I find a home for a deserving porn scene.
I failed to post Endangered Species as a single fic, so I know that was too big, but I've failed to work out where the tipping point is. Help!

Okay, so I don't have an exact number or anything, but a fic of mine that I was forced to post in three separate parts seems to have getting on for 8000 words in each part, so this could be a vague guideline for you.

The LJ FAQs annoyingly only give the limit in bytes, presumably because they have to taken into account that people might be posting media or pictures, and not words.

Please say Stephen and Ryan are testing their pain thresholds... I really can't make up my mind which one would win, but I would sure love to read it.

I have absolutely no idea of the maximum size of a post, but I'd thought I'd let you know that you're giving me warm, fuzzy feelings about part 4 being too big for one post! *g*

I did a word count of the draft last night and it's something just over 4000 at present, so not quite Epic Proportions, but I'd prefer not to have to subdivide it, so hopefully it'll be ok! And I'm presently drinking tea out of my lovely new Royal Forest of Dean Freeminers mug, bought on a field-trip" for research on Sunday! Fun underground and retail therapy, what could be better?

And not sure how "deserving" the scene will be, but we're getting danderously close to exploring one person's pain threshold - see, I do listen to you" *grins*

"Freeminers"? so, the Forest of Dean is near Wales? (which is as far as my knowledge of mining in the UK goes, sadly)

I wish I could offer something better than this: post with all of the fic in the REPLY box, and see how much goes through...proceeding from that point accordingly (what with Edit et al)

Yes, the Forest of Dean is that bit of England which resides between the Severn Estuary and South Wales. The phrase "Freeminers" is actually pretty specific to the F of D. There is/was both coal and iron-mining there.

Afraid I can't help with the question, but I'm *definitely* looking forward to the next chapter now. Mmmmm... Ryan/Stephen pain threshold exploration. Sounds great. And the plot without porn was great, so stop worrying about going a chapter without smut. This series is great, and you aren't going to lose readers who have been reading for so long just because the boys don't jump on each other for a chapter or two.

I don't think I've ever posted anything longer than about three to four thousand words, so I know the limit has to be higher than that, but other than that I don't know. If you do find out, I'd be interested to hear, though, as chapter two of my latest fic is currently four and a half thousand and still going, so it may become a relevant question for me as well.

Well, Part 4 has just hit 6,300. But now needs checking, refining and spillage of angst etc etc before I feel ready to post. And I generally like to make a start on the next bit, before posting in case I decide on backwards changes.

I have to admit, I'm really enjoying writing this one. It's nice to cross a fandom I love, with what I know about, so taking this one underground has been a whole heap of fun. And has given me such a lovely excuse to plan some more trips to the Forest of Dean. Sunday was lovely! And I very much hope that I've got a plot device that I can use to make some of it make sense, but the readers will have to be the judge of that :)

It's nice to be able to share fic-based angst here. Like a sort of remote-writing-group, which you can participate in from an armchair! And as Telperion_15 remarked in response to you in the earlier thread, what matters is the quality of the writing, not the smut-content. And whilst you're right that there's not a lot of het-fic in Primeval at the moment, it's also slightly surprising that the community is still as active as it seems to be, considering its now several months since the last episode screened, and often in fandoms, they tend to lose people as time goes by.

I hope that when I finish the Devil's Crowll series, I can then dive into the Gutter and play with a few short, silly fun-fics, and maybe a "combination-writer" attempt, but I'm afraid the current plot-bunny-of-doom has to be allowed to finish it's rmapage or the blasted thing will gnaw a hole in my brain as it tries to get out!

I agree about starting the next bit before posting if it's a series. I am paranoid about posting chapter one and then discovering I needed to put a reference in to something for later and I forgot.

It is rather good that the Primeval communities still seem to be going strong. There has been a bit of drop-off, if you look right back to March/April/May sort of time there were a lot more people frequenting the sites than there are now, but those of us who are still there are still going with the fic, which is nice. When it gets a bit nearer to series two starting it will no doubt pick up again.

I may be on a one-(wo)man mission to keep Nick/Claudia het going, as I have an idea for a fic, but need to get Connor/Ryan out of my system first. Like you say, when the plot bunny gets going sometimes all you can do is hang on tight and get dragged along for the ride!

Yes, that's a tricky one. But as this series come between episodes 5 and 6, I suspect she's getting quite close to Connor by now. And I might just have someone in mind for her to flirt with .......... :) Yes, more het!
